And I know that I am going to be accused of being heartless. But to illustrate. Let's say that your a grown adult and you happen to move back and live with your parents after you got out of prison for murdering someone. Then you go out and murder someone else, should your parents be held legally liable for you murdering someone else? No, they are not. You're a fully grown adult where they have limited authority over even though you may live with them. Now if your parents gave you a gun and said I really hate that person I wish someone would kill them then that would be a different story. Now morally would they still be culpable over you committing a second murder, either way, that is up for each person to decide, but that is not what the law is.

I do think that there are issues with the way that they handled certain cases. I do think that their new policy document puts them in line more closely with the way that most people want them to act. I don't agree that they should be held liable for the actual actions and that they have not committed a violation of the law in most cases that should put them in danger of a civil or a criminal liability. I think you cannot hold someone else responsible for a third parties action except under very limited circumstances.

Stephane I appreciate you admit that you don't care if it is accurate or not, and that is an acceptable position to have as long as you admit it. Your analogy of Cronkite is kind of wrong, he cried at the time that it occurred not days and weeks after as he was given news reports about it. Even now when breaking news happens emotions flare up but at a point, a respected journalist has to calm down and report accurate news otherwise they need to rethink the profession that they have. Sure if someone wanted to post that they received 12.5 million at the moment that the news broke that is one thing, but you have to then correct yourself when you calm down and realise the mistake.

Ruby I don't know because Outlaw apparently cannot use actual words but can only use memes.

I have seen a lot of comments that it is just a small detail when it comes to how much the settlements were and if the number is accurate or not. Many people have said all that matters is that Watchtower settled and that shows their culpability in the matter. But can let me as you a rhetorical question. How many of those same people when the original Conti verdict came down said that the 20 million dollars showed that the jury saw the true culpability of Watchtower? So is it just a detail when someone questions that it may not be as much as everyone thinks and it is a huge detail when it is, in fact, a big number? -

It can also be a legal strategy on the plaintiff side to just settle or drop the case. Just like in the Lopez case when the plaintiff won the 13.5, which was reversed on appeal, the plaintiff only won that against Watchtower not against the congregation. They still would have had to go to trial against the congregation, but instead of arguing their case they dismissed against the congregation because they already got the money they wanted. So just because there is an out of court settlement doesn't mean it against watchtower in a large sum or even any sum. -

The only statement that says estimate ScenicViewer is the statement by SilentLambs for the Fessler Case. All other statements make a statement that is how much was paid. And again scenicviewer, that one case was settled for that amount, doesn't mean all those cases were settled for the same amount, they could have taken more or could have taken less. You cannot just take one settlement and multiply it by 13 and come up with a number and say that is how much they paid, end of the story, no there is a number of circumstances that come into play when a settlement comes down, including the jurisdiction, proof of actual harm and other matters. So it maybe an estimate to say that but then you have to say it is an estimate.

I understand that she received one document. This was not certified as a class action lawsuit so the plaintiffs were not settling the cases together. Each plaintiff settled individually, so just because one plaintiff got a certain amount doesn't mean others got it too. The documents were sealed so by definition she couldn't know what each plaintiff received. So again is it just speculation that they all received the same amount and if so that is fine, just say that. But you can't say it as a fact that Watchtower paid out 12.5 million dollars.

Doctrine is up to interpretation. When someone says that another person paid 12.5 million dollars to 13 other people, that would be a fact that can be backed up with actual facts. I am just looking to see if this is based on facts or just speculation and because one person said it then everyone just took it as a fact.

ScenicViewer I have pointed out where they have stated that these things are facts. And if you based your estimate on something that you have no actual evidence of how can you make an educated estimate of anything.
